Pocahontas Memories

First Picture - When I was in town for the Pocahontas HS Grand Reunion 2011, Bob Shew gave me (Anne Carr) a piece of wood from the Company Store. I had someone make me a frame and I framed a picture of the Company Store as painted by Jill Morrissette.

Second Picture - This picture, taken from the Virginia Archives, is how the Company Store actually looked when it was built in 1882 - 1883. I (Barbara Shupe) was also given a piece of wood from the Company Store and had the frame built for this picture.

Third Picture - The Post Office at Pocahontas, VA had mailboxes inside the store and when they changed them the boxes were sold. Philip Mathena sent me (Anne Carr) our box from when we were growing up and my brother made me a box for it.

This is just a little bit of history that we wanted to share for all of our classmates.

This website is dedicated to keeping the graduates, classmates, staff, and friends of Pocahontas High School up to date with announcements from the Pocahontas High School Grand Reunion Committee, and about the events and happenings in and around Pocahontas Virginia, and on Peel Chestnut Mountain.

Welcome to the Pocahontas High School Indians Home Page!

The Pocahontas High School Grand Reunion Committee first started with a Homecoming Celebration in 1984. They held another Homecoming in 1994. Since then, the name of the Celebration has changed to the Grand Reunions and they have taken place every three years since 2002. Everyone who attended Pocahontas High School from the years of 1930 to 1970 were invited to attend. Former staff and friends of Pocahontas High School were invited as well.

Hundreds of folks from all over the United States return to Pocahontas Virginia every three years for the three days of the Pocahontas High School Grand Reunions. Events of the past Grand Reunions have included a Friday Golf Tournament, a Friday evening Social, a Saturday night Dinner and Dance, and a Sunday afternoon picnic.
